Asthma outreach

Children's Community Health Plan wants to help you and your family stay healthy. Asthma is the most common chronic disease for children. It is one of the leading causes that keep children and parents home from school and work each year.

If you or your child has asthma, Children's Community Health Plan can help. With the help of Fight Asthma Milwaukee (FAM) Allies, we provide Catch Your Breath - Asthma Survival Skills for Parents and Children.

This free class is held six times each year and will teach you and your child:

  • How asthma affects the lungs.
  • How to recognize early warning signs and prevent emergencies.
  • How to manage indoor and outdoor triggers.
  • How asthma medications work.
  • The importance of controller medications.
  • How to work with school and health personnel.

To learn more about this program, contact the Customer Service Line at (800) 482-8010.

Members can always access asthma education information on the FAM Allies Web site. Learn more about what asthma is, triggers, medications and management tools.

Children's Community Health Plan is a member of a community coalition led by Children's Hospital and Health System that supports FAM Allies. The coalition strives to meet five goals:

  1. Increase the quality of life for asthma patients.
  2. Decrease asthma emergency room visits and hospitalizations.
  3. Decrease missed child care, school and work from asthma.
  4. Eliminate disparities in asthma outcomes.
  5. Develop a sustainable strategy for asthma management in Milwaukee.
